BOSTON__Mary W. Kamau, popularly known as Mama Jike who lived in Boston from 2002 to 2014 before relocating to Seattle Washington died last Saturday evening of lung cancer at age 67.

According to family sources, the late Mary Kamau was diagnosed with the fatal stage 4 cancer mid last year and has been going through treatment at various medical treatment facilities in Seattle.

However, due to the advanced stage of the diagnosis, she continued to bravely fight the disease but finally succumbed Saturday around 3pm Pacific Standard Time.

She leaves behind her husband, Lawrence Kamau of Saugus near Boston, three daughters and one son, all in Kenya.

Two of her daughters, Wanjiku Kamau, popularly known as Jike lived in Boston from mid nineties until around 2004 when she relocated back to Kenya, while Wakonyo Kamau relocated to Seattle with her mother in search of better opportunities.

A memorial service has been planned to take place on Sunday at the St. Paul's Community church in Lawrence starting 3 pm in honor of the late mother of 4 who has many ties to the local community until the time of relocation. In addition, a second memorial service and funeral funds drive will take place tomorrow Saturday January 25 in Seattle where the late Mary had set up permanent roots before the untimely death.

"We are inviting all friends and well wishers who knew the late Mary Kamau and her children to come out in big numbers for the memorial service on Sunday to help raise funeral funds for a befitting send off. It's a difficult time for the family and they need all the support we can give," said David Mambo, chairman of the funeral fund raising committee in Boston.

The late Mary Kamau hailed from Kiambu County in Kenya. She relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in 2002 where she lived for 12 years then relocated again to Seattle.

The St. Paul's Community church is located at 112 Andover Street, Lawrence, MA 01843.
