Shock and dismay has engulfed family and friends of Mary W Kimani popularly known as Mama Nduta, a Kenyan formerly residing in Malden, near Boston following news of her death Monday night--barely two months after returning back to the motherland for retirement.

According to family sources, Kimani(68) passed away from a heart attack soon after being rushed to the new Nairobi Women's hospital on Sunday, a day after she had been treated and discharged at the Nairobi Hospital, a long time private hospital on Saturday.

"My mother developed some medical complications three weeks after arriving back home in March. She has been visiting a doctor weekly for treatment and monitoring her other medical conditions she has been having for a long time," said Esther Nduta Kimani, her daughter who lives in Minnesota during a telephone interview with Ajabu Africa News.

Nduta added that her mother had undergone a major surgery in 2012 but had recovered well, with doctors in Boston indicating she was well enough to take a flight home.

"It was just unfortunate that this happened so soon after arriving back home," she added.

The late Kimani immigrated to USA in 2001 where she settled in Boston where she settled, living and working as an active community member until she decided to return back to the motherland late in March this year.

"She was a very loving mother and grandmother to all her descendants, and served as a spiritual resource to her Diaspora community where she was a very active member of the Saint Paul's Community church in Lawrence, Massachusetts," said Benjamin Mbugua Mune, a nephew in Atlanta, Georgia.

"This is a shock to me. Mama Nduta was very jovial and in good spirits when we held a farewell party for her at the St. Paul’s church few months ago. We wished her a safe journey and comfortable retirement back home only to be shocked with this news of her passing. May the Lord bless her soul until we meet again," said Betty Karanja, a close friend from Millis, Massachusetts.

The late Kenyan hails from of King'eero village in Kabete, Kiambu County, and central Kenya.

She leaves behind a husband, William Kimani, four children and many grand children, nieces and nephews.

Prayers for the late Kimani are taking pace daily at her daughter's home in Minnesota from 6pm.

However, a memorial service has been planned to take place this Saturday at the Destiny Hill Church in Minnetonka, Minnesota at 11am on Saturday followed by another one for friends in Boston that will take place at the St. Paul's Community church on Sunday soon after the Sunday service.

Friends and well wishes are urged to attend any of the events close to their areas of residence while those unable to make it and would like to contribute, were urged to do so via several online options made available for the purpose.

On Monday, June 12th 2017 our beloved Mary W Kimani (Mama Nduta ) of Kingeero , Kabete and a former resident of Malden Massachusetts was promoted to Glory following a brief illness in Kenya. Mary was a faithful servant of God, a wife to William Kimani, a mother to James& CatherineThiiru, John & Anne Mwaura,Peter & Esther Kamore(Minnesota) and Alex & Carol Mbugua. She was the Daughter to the Late Benjamin Mbugua & Esther Nduta Mbugua of Ngecha and Daughter in law to Zakayo Simon Thiiru and Leah Wanjiku Thiruof Gatundu,a sister to Late John Mune, Rufus Mutuma, Daniel Kahuria and Edward Kihangu-all of Kenya. She leaves behind her many loving In-laws,cousins, grandchildren, Nephews, andNieces.

Before her relocation to Kenya this past March, she was an active member of St Paul's community church where she was a spiritual resource to many. She will be remembered for her unending generosity, warmth, and hospitality.

Funeral scheduled for Friday June 23 at PCEA Kingeero and thereafter followed by procession to her final resting place PCEA Church of the Torch(Kiimuri) Thogoto.
