Makerere University students on evening programme are to resume their lectures after Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) agreed to call off their strike.
Last week, the lecturers stopped teaching evening programme students following a management decision to slash their incentive pay by 75 percent.
This forced the students to go on strike demanding lecturers and university management to explain why they were not being taught.

However, in a subsequent meeting held on Wednesday between MUASA members, university management, council chairperson and student leaders, the lecturers agreed to postpone the incentives discussion up to the next council meeting which will take place next month.

Makerere University vice chancellor Prof Ddumba in an interview with Daily Monitor said: "We have agreed that lecturers resume teaching evening classes. We agreed to postpone incentives discussion to next council meeting taking place on October 21."
MUASA chairperson Dr Muhammad Kiggundu Musoke also said: "We are having general assembly tomorrow (Thursday) and we shall communicate this resolution to our members. We are ready to teach evening classes."
