South Korean President Park Geun-hye left Kenya at about 10am on Wednesday after a successful visit that began on Monday.

She held talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta and witnessed the signing of various agreements between Kenya and her country.

Uhuru invited more Korean companies to set up businesses in Kenya, and welcomed more partnerships in the construction of roads, pipelines and ports.

He said in an address at a Kenya-Korea Business Forum in Nairobi on Tuesday that the country was also open to investments in ICT, agriculture and e-government.

The President urged Korean companies to seize the opportunity, provided by Kenya through its surplus power production and strong IT foundation, to make profitable investments.

"We invited you to start operations here, and take advantage of the 650 million-people market available to you through the tripartite free trade agreement signed by more than 25 African countries last year," he said.

Uhuru noted that Kenya is one of the most innovative countries in Africa with which Korea wants to forge a new model of partnership.

He further noted that Korea has an advantage in heavy industries while Kenya has an advantage in light industries such as textile.

The Korean President said her country is ready to buy more of Kenya's agricultural products including tea, coffee and flowers.

"Kenya is Korea's biggest trading partner. Time has come for us to go beyond the traditional products. We have to forge closer cooperation in ICT and infrastructure," she said.

She also spoke of the need for cooperation in industrial development and e-government.

Deputy President William Ruto said there is a lot Kenya can learn from Korea since they were at the same economic level a few decades ago.

"The challenge is to the Kenyan private sector. We need to claim our space in Korea through you," he said.

Cabinet Secretaries Adan Mohamed (Industrialisation) and Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs) also spoke at the forum held at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel .

More than 150 Korean and 100 Kenyan businessman attended the meeting.
