An evangelical church pastor is nursing serious injuries, after he was attacked by an irate mob on suspicion that he was committing adultery with another man's wife at Bonanza Estate, Embu County, Kenya.

The pastor was flashed from the home of a Kenya Power employee at around 3am and beaten up before Administration Police officers rescued him together with the woman.

There was drama in the usually quiet estate after the Faith of Miracles, Majimbo clergyman said he was at the home for night--long prayers and didn't have ulterior motives.

When pressed by the irate mob on why he only came to the home while the husband was away, the pastor said he had asked the husband but he never welcomed him.

"I came for prayers and nothing else. I usually hold special night-long prayers with my faithful on Wednesday. I will and would no longer conduct prayers in people's homes," he pleaded.

The husband to the woman said he had received a tip--off from residents that the pastor usually spends nights at the home and decided to lay a trap.

"I saw him enter the house at 9pm and called my friends before we stormed the house at 3am. I was called on Sunday after he was spotted but by the time I arrived, he had left. This time round, my wife thought I was far away and thus was not bothered," said the husband.

When the husband locked the door from outside to call for help, the pastor started praying loudly, ostensibly to deceive him.

The unapologetic wife said she had a special need that she wanted the pastor to fulfill through prayers.

"I heard my husband knocking as we said the 3am prayers. The pastor had arrived at 10pm from Nairobi and we decided to pray for the safe journey he had," said the mother of three.

But the husband claimed that his wife had been adulterous for long and he had twice reported the matter to the police after she started having affairs with her tenants.

"There was a doctor who used to stay here and sometimes people spotted her coming out of the house while skimpily dressed. When I discovered it, the medic moved," the aggrieved husband said.

Residents said the woman had initially been employed as a house help before the man married her.
