Most US and United Kingdom citizens want know whether it is safe to visit Kenya, Google trends for last 6 months have reported.

Terror attacks in Kenya and the April's torching of tonnes of ivory by President Uhuru Kenyatta dominated the searches in both countries during the period.

In April, President Kenyatta led dignitaries in torching 105 tonnes of elephant ivory and 1.5 tonnes of rhino horn; deemed the largest stockpile to be burnt in Kenya.

In lighter searches, they also wanted to find out more about the monkey that caused a three hour national black out last month.

They also went online to find out if they could get cheap flights and the best tourism sites while some wanted to know about athlete David Rudisha--world record holder in 800metres race.

In the African continent, South Africans are interested in the currency exchange rate in the country as well as if they can find jobs in Kenya.

Other topics they are interested in are the Kenya Premier League, Visa processing and the country's music.

Meanwhile, Nigerians wanted to know about getting a Kenyan Visa online, studying in Kenya and they also wanted information when their President Muhammadu Buhari made his maiden visit to the country at the beginning of the year.

In the East African society, Tanzanians are very interested in the weather in Diani.

They also went online to find out about 'maandamano' (protests) in Kenya.

This is after the anti--IEBC protests staged by the CORD coalition last month where deaths and injuries were reported.

Corruption, the al Shabaab and Sauti Sol were among the top 10 topics searched.

There were about 600,000 queries on tourism in Kenya from US citizens last year and another 700,000 from UK citizens during the same period.

Kenyans interest in domestic tourism is also good with about 900,000 queries being put up about tourism sites in the country.

Speaking on Thursday, Google's country manager Charles Murito noted that the huge numbers of queries on tourism in Kenya was a good sign and the adoption of domestic tourism will help boost the industry to recover after the effects of previous terror attacks.

"It is phenomenal that Kenyans want to know more about local tourism and explore the country, it is a good sign for the tourism industry," he said.
