Edward Mwangi, famously known as 'Mwangi Wa Ndege', the man who made a chopper three years ago at Githunguri, Kiambu County, is now a boda boda rider.

The 25 year old father of one who hit the headlines across all media houses after his ingenious innovation has been struggling to make ends meet.

Mwangi told The Nairobian that things did not turn out as he had expected after his moment of fame. And despite receiving numerous promises from people of means, nothing has been forthcoming. Worse, his former employer fired him after labelling him 'dangerous'.

"It reached a point in my life when I lost hope and regretted why I had made that chopper. My troubles started when my employer asked me to leave her home. That was after the media made me relatively famous," Mwangi says.

He recalls the day a powerful politician from Kiambu promised to help him further his education, a promise that has never been fulfilled.

"The politician gave me Sh1,000 and promised to cater for my education. I have made calls to his office countless times to no avail. I know he is a busy man and maybe he forgot about the promise he made," Mwangi told The Nairobian.

"I made that chopper at a farm where I used to work. My boss had no idea I had hidden my toy chopper behind the house until the day I called her to see it. That was after two years. I put all my money in the chopper hoping that someday someone would acknowledge my work, but all my efforts and time went down the drain," Mwangi recalls.

When we visited Mwangi's former boss, she narrated how she met him.

"I met this young man on the road. He was looking for a job as a farm worker, and I felt pity for him. I took him in and gave him the job which he did diligently for more than two years. But to my surprise he had made a chopper without my knowledge, and that made me angry. But we later ironed out our differences and I consider him my son, said the 84--year-old granny.

Now a boda boda rider, mwangi is determined to face life. He says the motorbike was given to him by one Professor Wanderi, a lecturer at Kenyatta University. He says he appreciates the kind gesture from the professor and his colleagues.

Mwangi is now appealing to well--wishers to help him realise the beauty of his dream, that of 'chewing' books.

The Class Four drop out says he cannot realise his dream without proper education. This remains his prayer.
