According to the Board of Directors of the new church, the late Dr. Kimenyi was a frequent visitor to Boston where he has several family members and many friends,  most of whom said they would be unable to attend the main memorial to be held in Baltimore Maryland same day.

"The late professor was a well-known figure in the Kenyan community, both in the Diaspora and back home. He has done a lot of contributions to the Kenyan community as a scholar on the world stage as a scholar and so when the family approached us to host the memorial, we felt it is very important to do so," said Peter Okeny, chairman of the board for the new church.

"As a fellowship of believers, we are here to preach the gospel. We are here to fulfill the Great Commission and speak it to the people so we can bring fresh hope to a suffering community in this region of the world," he added during an interview with Ajabu Africa News.

The late Dr. Kimenyi passed away last after a short illness, a development that shocked many in the Kenyan community including Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Equally, he was a mentor to younger Kenyan academics, and he defended Kenya and Africa's cause in forums abroad," said the President in his statement.
