Individuals interested in the UDA Party Presidential candidature for the 2022 elections will have to part with Sh1 million (males) while the females and the youth will pay Sh500,000.

In a notice, UDA National Election Board chairperson Anthony Mwaura said the applicants will have to submit their papers on or before February 28, 2022.

For the governor seats, male aspirants will pay a Sh500,000 nomination fee, while women and the youth will pay Sh250,000.

Applicants interested in the Woman Representative seat will pay a Sh250,000 nomination fee, and the youths will pay Sh125,000.

For MP seats, male applicants will pay Sh250,000, females and youth will pay Sh125,000, and the same amount applies to those seeking to vie for the senator positions.

For MCA seats, male applicants will pay a nomination fee of Sh50,000 while females will pay Sh25,000, the same amount is to be paid by the youth.

"All payments for submission should be made via MpesaUDA's bank account. Personal or company cheques are not acceptable," he said.

According to Mwaura, all people living with disabilities who are interested in the various seats will be exempted from the nomination fees.

“The applications should be done via UDA website www.UDA.ke or www. leaders.UDA.ke/nominations,” Mwaura said.

The board waived 50 per cent of the nomination fees for youths and women to encourage their participation in elective leadership.

The chairperson added that all the payments for submissions should be made through Mpesa or to the party’s bank account.

Over the weekend, the board members said that they will abide by the new political parties law and that the board had set their nomination guidelines in line with the IEBC requirements.

Mwaura dismissed fears that there were sacred cows who would receive a direct nomination, adding that it was up to ‘Wanjiku’ to pick the best candidate.

“The party does not have any preferred candidate and all aspirants starting from the top to the lowest will have to go through the set nominations,” he said.

Last month, IEBC gazetted August 9, 2022, as the election date, and directed aspirants who will contest as independent not to be members of any registered political party by May 2.

“Candidates intending to participate in this election as independent candidates shall submit their names and symbols that they intend to use during the election to the Commission on or before Monday, 2nd May 2022,” IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati said.
